Three Cases of Intracerebral Arteriovenous Malformations

Abstract
Since the cerebral angiography has been used widely, we are able to diagnose the intracerebral arteriovenous malformations by clinical means easely which used to be found accidentally at operation or at the post mortem examination in the past. The author experienced 3 cases of intracerebral arteriovenous malformations from 1959 to 1961.
All cases, 23, 24 & 26 years old male, had persistent dull headache without intracranial bruit and admited to hospital because of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage, Jacksonian epilepsy or progressive neurological deficit. The carotid angiogram revealed arteriovenous malformations arising from the branches of the middle ¢¥cerebral artery and various veins in. these cases. One out of these cases was operated under hypothermia(30-32¡Æ C), but only partial excision was passible. This patient tolerated operation excellently and postoperative complications such as aphasia & paresis of leg were recovered after 10 days. A short review of the literatures was made in regard to embryology, pathology, symptomatology and treatment of the intracerebral arteriovenous malformations.
